Recently, the Ladies of Charity gathered for a beautiful and meaningful Lenten retreat centered on the theme “Hope Through Mary’s Way of the Cross.” The day offered a special opportunity for prayer, reflection, joining our voices in song, and fellowship as our Ladies spiritually journeyed with Mary along the Via Dolorosa.

Throughout the retreat, reflections on Mary’s experience during the Passion invited everyone to view the Stations of the Cross through a lens of compassion, faith, and hope. We also spent time in small group discussions, sharing personal reflections, listening to one another, and supporting each other in faith. These conversations created a meaningful space for connection and helped many experience the retreat in a deeper and more personal way.

The retreat continued with participation in daily Mass, which centered the day in the Eucharist. Time for fellowship was also enjoyed as everyone shared a delicious lunch thoughtfully prepared by the staff at DePaul House, further strengthening the sense of community among all who attended.

One of the most moving moments of the day came during a prayerful activity when we wrote down the crosses we carry in our lives and watched those crosses dissolve in water.  This powerful symbol served as a reminder that when we entrust our burdens to God, we do not carry them alone.

As a lasting reminder of the retreat’s message, participants received bracelets that included the word “Hope.” These bracelets serve as a simple yet powerful symbol that even in times of suffering and difficulty, we are called to trust in God and hold firmly to hope.

We are grateful to everyone who attended this powerful event. It was truly a grace-filled retreat that reminded us of the hope we have through Christ.
