OUR MINISTRIES

The Giving Room

The Sister Maureen Joyce Center Giving Room distributes clothing and personal care items to soup kitchen guests.  Many of these men and women are homeless.  Others live in shelters or in run-down, unheated apartments.  When we are open on Thursdays from 11:45 am until 12:45 pm, approximately 30-40 people come to us for everything from shampoo, soap and deodorant to sneakers, underwear, socks, jeans and t-shirts.  In the winter we also give out many coats, hats, gloves, long underwear, hoodies and sweatpants.

Contributions of clean, gently-used clothing is always welcome.  We are also grateful for monetary donations to keep our shelves stocked.  If you would like to help us help others, donations can be dropped off at the Center, corner of Thornton Street and Livingston Avenue, between 10:45 am and 12:45 pm on Thursdays.  Any checks can be made payable to Ladies of Charity with the memo to SMJC Giving Room and mailed to Ladies of Charity of the Diocese of Albany, 40 N. Main Ave., Albany, NY 12203.
